Vegas Gross Experience Still On Despite Coronavirus Concerns
This weekend’s Gross Xperience show within the Las Vegas Toy Con is still scheduled to take place. While many local governments and sports leagues around the country have postponed or cancelled events in the last 24 hours due to the coronavirus, that hasn’t been the case with the Vegas Toy Con. Nevada and Las Vegas currently do not have any local government restrictions in place limiting social gatherings. The show released information on their social media channels yesterday stating, “the show must go on”. As of 11:00 AM local time today, show promoters confirmed with GPKNews that the show would go on. Jon Gregory, one of the GPK artists scheduled to attend the show, will no longer be attending.
This isn’t the only convention coming up over the new few months that has a large Garbage Pail Kids presence. The next Philly Non-Sports card show is set to take place May 2-3 in Allentown, PA. As of now the show is still scheduled. Show promoters told GPKNews today that, “They are still planning to hold the show unless the CDC orders all gatherings to be cancelled.”
Then there are the larger Comic Cons in San Diego and New York. Earlier today on their twitter account, the San Diego Comic Con posted that their sister con, Wonder Con (scheduled Apr 10-12), has been postponed. They said no decision has been made yet on the San Diego Comic Con, scheduled to take place July 23-26.
We continue to work closely with officials in San Diego and at this time no decision has been made regarding the rescheduling of Comic-Con slated to take place this summer; July 23-26, 2020. (3/4)
— San Diego Comic-Con (@Comic_Con) March 12, 2020
New York Comic Con has not commented yet, but their show is still a number of months away in October. The next few weeks/months will be chaotic for show promoters as they struggle with these decisions.
Did You Miss SDCC? You Might Still Have a Chance…
San Diego Comic Con is extremely hard to get tickets to. It’s the most popular comic con in the country and its turned more into an entertainment mecca than comic related. Its massive popularity makes getting tickets tough. If you weren’t able to attend, you might still have a chance at getting some Garbage Pail Kids merchandise from both Super7 and Creepy Co.
Super7 posted a message on their Facebook account today stating there would be Universal Monsters X GPK cards packs in their webstore sometime next week. They did warn the parks will be in limited quantities. In addition collectors visiting Super7 stores have said employees are telling customers they will have some packs available in stores soon as well. ToyWiz also briefly had packs and boxes for sale yesterday, but sold out quickly. Keep your eyes open if you are still looking for card packs.
Creepy Co. also mentioned recently that they would be posting their limited extras from SDCC on sale soon via their website. If you missed out on bop bags and the pin/lanyard you will get another chance soon.
Exclusive John Pound SDCC Promo Surfaces
With San Diego Comic Con in full gear, the second Garbage Pail Kids Promo card for the show has surfaced. Thanks to eBay a couple of sellers have posted the card, a reprint of Adam Bomb. The back of the card identifies it as a con promo with both a Topps and FYE logo. Pound is scheduled to sign autographs at the FYE booth Friday. Barring any other weekend surprises this looks to be the final SDCC GPK promo card.
Exclusive Simko SDCC Promo Card Surfaces
Thanks to eBay the first exclusive San Diego Comic Con Garbage Pail Kids promo card has surfaced. This one is a GPK Cereal Card named Barf Bit Betty. The art is the same art used on the 3f card from the FYE GPK cereal, but this time there is a character name. Joe Simko is being advertised to be signing promo cards at both the FYE store and the FYE booth at SDCC. I’m guessing this is one of the cards being given out. This of course brings up the question, do promos exist for all 4 cereal cards? There is also a John Pound promo card being advertised that hasn’t surfaced yet. I’ll update this post as more SDCC promo cards surface.
Super7 Adds Universal Monster x GPK T-Shirts to SDCC Pop-up Store

The artwork on the shirts features some of the same artwork Joe Simko did for the card sets. Those going to SDCC need to expand their budget!
