Philly Non-Sport Show Previews Exclusive GPK Set

The Philly Non-Sport show is one of the most popular non-sport shows in the country. Taking place two times a year, this year’s spring show is set for April 22 & 23 in Allentown, PA at the Merchants Square Mall. This show’s theme is GPK/Wacky Packages. There are six Topps artists attending the show. They are Neil Camera, Smokin’ Joe McWilliams, Layron DeJarnette, Joe Simko, Jeff Zapata, and Chad Scheres. Each artist has created either a GPK or Wacky card that will be part of a nine card set sold only at the show. This officially licensed Topps set consists of three GPK cards with a/b versions, and three Wacky Packages cards.

Show promoter Roxanne Toser, previewed pictures of the set yesterday via Facebook. The nine card set will be limited to 300 copies, and will cost $25 each. A couple of the sets will be autographed and given out as prizes during the Saturday night dinner with the artists. Proceeds from the sale of the sets will be used to cover some of the artist’s expenses for attending the show. A couple of artists have posted the artwork they did for the set. Here is the known checklist:

#1a Rocky N Roll/#1b Les Vegas – Layron DeJarnette
#2a Overdone Davy/#2b Cracked Crockett – Joe Simko
#3a Ceasing Clark/#3b Can’t Move Kent   – Jeff Zapata
#4 Slop Loaders (Wacky) – Chad Scheres

April Philly Non-Sports Show to Feature GPK/Wacky Promo Set

Roxanne Toser announced today on Facebook that this Spring’s Philly Non-Sports Card Show will feature a GPK and Wacky Packages theme. The Toser’s have been involved in Non-Sports cards for decades. Famously running a mail order business, and publishing Non-Sports Magazine. Today they still promote one of the biggest and most important non-sports card shows in the country. The Philly Non-Sports card show takes place twice a year in the spring and fall.

In previous years, Topps has offered promo cards at the Philly Non-Sports shows, starting back in the ANS days and through the BNS sets. This time there is a twist. Roxanne announced there would be a licensed Topps set created by the artists for sale. There are no details yet on who is doing the artwork, number of cards in the set, or the price. Roxanne did say there were six artists attending the show; Smokin Joe McWilliams, Chad Scheres, Layton DeJarnette, Neal Camera, Joe Simko, and Jeff Zapata. It isn’t clear if the set will be available for sale before the show to people not attending. However, Roxanne did mention the set would go on sale soon, as the proceeds would be used to pay for the artists hotel rooms. This would appear to be a similar license deal that the Riot Fest music festival did last year.

The Philly Non-Sport show takes place April 22 & 23 at the Merchants Square Mall in Allentown, PA. Until more details are released you can check the show’s Facebook page or their Website. GPKnews will update once more details are available.

New GPK Promo Card Live from Topps Mars Attacks Set

A new Garbage Pail Kids Promo card is now live thanks to the release of Topps Mars Attacks Occupation. This set is the first time Topps launched a brand on the crowd funding site Kickstarter. Originally set to release in Dec., 2015 a handful of production issues has led to first cards being shipped last week. The first 500 backers of the Kickstarter campaign that paid enough to receive a physical award received a copy of the GPK Promo card. There ended up being 525 total backers. So at least 500 copies of the promo card were made. However, Topps allowed collectors to add on additional copies of the promo card for $5 to their order. So there is no telling how large the print run was for this promo card.

The front of the card features Leaky Lindsay and Alien Ian in new artwork from GPK artist Joe Simko.

The back of the card features a comic with promotional information for the IDW GPK Graphic Novel Collection.

If you were part of this campaign expect your order to be arriving in the mail any day if it already hasn’t. If you didn’t participate in the campaign keep you eyes on eBay as copies should start showing up soon.

New York Comic Con Jumbo Error Cards Surface

Topps announced Thursday that they would be selling 5 new jumbo character card sets at the New York Comic Con this weekend. Just like that collectors begin showing up to purchase, and found something odd with both the Mean Gene and Boozin Bruce sets. Card #1 and #2 in those character sets are both from The Garbage Gang series in Australia. The front of the cards are identical. What is odd is the backs. Besides being numbered differently they also represent different years; 1987 and 1988. Thanks to GPK collector Ke We for pictures of the error cards below.

Collectors who purchased sets Thursday only received the error cards. Fast forward to Friday, collectors who purchased those sets were handed separately the correct missing Basuritas card from Argentina. So those collectors received both the error variation, and the corrected variation. Thanks to geepeekay.com master Matt Oldweiler for the picture of the correct cards.

Customers at Topps booth were told they printed a total of 250 of each character set for the New York Comic Con. They also told customers that there were not that many corrected cards printed of Gene/Bruce so not all error sets would be able to receive the correct version. No word yet if customers that purchased on Thursday would be able to go back and claim the corrected cards. If you are going I would suggest to not delay if you want to get everything thats being offered.

So who’s going to NYCC, and can hook me up?

Parallels Surface for GPK Go HollyWood Comic

Updated 8/27 @ 9:47

The Black border Methane Max has finally surfaced. GPK collector Stephen Emery pulled a black border from his comic order from all the way in the U.K.! Now that all the parallels have been found, happy hunting everyone!

Almost a week after the release of the newest comic, Garbage Pail Kids Go Hollywood, colored parallels of the promo card finally have started to surface. Collectors busting the comic in the first week had pulled nothing but the base version of the Methane Max card found in the Deluxe version of the comic. However GPK collector Jeremiah Schauls broke that streak last night. Jeremiah purchased 8 of the Deluxe version from his local comic store and hit the jackpot. He pulled 7 yellow versions along with the very rare red version.

IDW’s lackluster distribution of the comics has continued since the first comic. IDW won’t shuffle the comics as they are distributed, therefore the same store will end up with batches of the same colored parallel, while all other stores get base versions. While there has been no confirmation yet from IDW in previous releases there were 10 copies of the red version and 100 copies of the yellow version of the card produced. In keeping with the previous comic released the reds/yellows are not numbered on the back. As of this update a Black version of the card has yet to surface. This article will be updated when a black surfaces.
