Topps Digital Launches Garbage Pail Kids Bernventures Digital WAX Set

If you’ve been awake in the last week you’ve certainly seen some of the hundreds of Bernie Sanders memes taking over the internet. US senator and former Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was photographed at the inauguration last week casually hanging out in his mittens, and the internet took it from there. Topps Digital is adding to the fun today by launching Garbage Pail Kids Bernventures set on the WAX Blockchain. The set launched as a surprise launch today at 3:30 PM EST at https://gpkbernventures.com. Cards were launched using the Atomic Assets standard. Packs are available for purchase in WAX only, with the cost being $5 worth of WAX tokens. Each pack comes with 2 different digital cards. There is no limit to packs available for sale. Packs will remain for sale for 3 days, with the sale ending at Friday, 1/29 at 1:00 PM EST. There is a countdown timer and packs sold counter on the website. Packs can be opened on the website under the inventory tab. Cards can also be viewed and sorted on the same tab. (At press time pictures were not displaying for cards/packs and the sorting feature for cards was not working. Topps is working on a resolution.)

The set contains 9 cards done by Topps artist Lars Kommienezuspadt. There are both a and b name versions making the total set 18 cards. Collectors can pull four different types of cards from packs; base (Base “a” 59.5%/Base “b” “?”) , rare artist sketches (10.5%), epic artist raws (3%), and legendary artist signatures (0.5%). The number of cards minted is not set and will be limited by the number of packs sold during the 3 day event.

Perhaps the main draw of the sale is the burn event that will go on at the same time as the sale. Once collectors open their cards they can burn then to earn points. Each card type has the following Burn Value: Base b (1 point), Base a (2 points), Artist Sketch (5 points), Artist Raws (20 points), Artist Signatures (150 points). Collectors can burn cards within the inventory tab by clicking on each card type. Cards can be burned only until 2/1/21. At the end of the event collectors will earn 1 Mitten Pack for every 5 points they have burned. Mitten packs will contain base mitten cards along with the chance to receive Golden Mitten cards, and rare animation cards.

Topps Launches 2021 Garbage Pail Kids Collector’s Club

Update: After being on sale for a little over 30 mins, the club membership now shows as sold out. That went fast!

The Garbage Pail Kids brand made another giant leap forward with Topps push into an exclusive club. Today, Topps launched the 2021 Garbage Pail Kids Collector’s Club. The club comes with an initial package of membership letter, club card, poster, and 4 card set of “charter members”. The cards are of Club President Nat Nerd, Vice President Joe Blow, Treasurer Cranky Frankie, and Administrative Assistant Brainy Janie. Collectors will then recurve four 20 card sets through the year, each coming with a bonus gift that shows TDB. The sets will arrive in March, June, September, and December. Each set will be themed around one of the “charter members”. The listing says memberships are limited to 3 per household. Collectors are able to purchase the membership on Topps website for $200. The cost of the membership covers one year. The membership is available on Topps.com for 7 days. However, it does says supplies are limited, so it might sell out. It’s not known if Topps will reveal the membership numbers.

The club details defer slightly from what appeared briefly last night on Topps UK website. There is no longer mention of a pin or binder as the bonus gifts are all TBD. While this club is similar to the 582 Montgomery Club, there is no mention of members getting first access to packed out products like GPK Sapphire.

Topps Launching 2021 Garbage Pail Kids Collector’s Club Tomorrow

According to the email sent to customers today, Topps teased the launch of the 2021 Garbage Pail Kids Collector’s Club. No other information or hints are provided in the email. However, GPK collector Chris Basler found a link on the Topps’ UK website that appears to show some of the details. The club appears to be much like the 582 Montgomery Club that sold the GPK Sapphire product. Info on the page says members will get a pin, 2 sets, a binder, and the right to renew membership first. Interesting info indeed. Collectors will need to keep their eyes open on Topps.com tomorrow for this new endeavor.

More 2021S1 GPK Food Fight Packaging Images

Toywiz joined the packaging release party by adding images of the refrigerator tins for 2021 Series 1 Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight. to their sales listings. The tins come in four colors; green, red, orange, and blue. The tins all feature the Garbage Pail Kids banner, 2021 Food Fight, and various refrigerator themed artwork. Unlike previous series, this time around the tins are in place of what collectors usually call “Blaster” or “Value” boxes. Each tin contains 10 retail packs, and 3 Celebrity Chef stickers, with. MSRP of $19.99. Topps did not originally announce the tins when sell sheets were first released. The first retail sell sheet advertised the regular Blaster type of box. However, shortly after release of the sell sheet, Topps sent information to distributors changing to the refrigerator tins. No word yet if any of the tin colors will be rarer than the others. Collectors will be able to find these in Targets and Walmart when the set is released on 2/24/21.
