Toywiz joined the packaging release party by adding images of the refrigerator tins for 2021 Series 1 Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight. to their sales listings. The tins come in four colors; green, red, orange, and blue. The tins all feature the Garbage Pail Kids banner, 2021 Food Fight, and various refrigerator themed artwork. Unlike previous series, this time around the tins are in place of what collectors usually call “Blaster” or “Value” boxes. Each tin contains 10 retail packs, and 3 Celebrity Chef stickers, with. MSRP of $19.99. Topps did not originally announce the tins when sell sheets were first released. The first retail sell sheet advertised the regular Blaster type of box. However, shortly after release of the sell sheet, Topps sent information to distributors changing to the refrigerator tins. No word yet if any of the tin colors will be rarer than the others. Collectors will be able to find these in Targets and Walmart when the set is released on 2/24/21.

Topps Shares Images of 2021S1 Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight Packaging
With the release of 2021 Series 1 Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight just over a month away, images for the packaging have begun appearing online. Steel City Collectibles has updated some of their sales listings with images of the retail packaging. Both the Retail Display box and Fat Pack packaging are shown. This set’s mascot is New Wave Dave who is using his yellow spray paint on the hot dogs. The boxes themselves advertise the expected parallels to search for inside, Blue for Retail Display and Purple for Fat Packs. Collectors will be able to find 2021S1 GPK Food Fight in stores 2/24/21.
Chrome Highlights Garbage Pail Kids Retail Releases for 2021
Of course Topps will continue Chrome Garbage Pail Kids in 2021. According to the yearly internal sales calendar for 2021, Topps is planning for their 4th GPK Chrome retail release. The calendar is the yearly production plan by Topps for 2021. While things can change, and there are no guarantees the set will be made, Topps has every intention of continuing with the GPK brand in Chrome form. After making Chrome OS 1 & OS 2 in 2013–14, Topps refused to make anymore GPK Chrome sets due to low demand. However, after intense collector support and a resurgence in the GPK brand, Topps came back with Chrome OS 3 in 2020. With production of Chrome OS 3 being the highest GPK set in more than a decade, the demand is there for Chrome to continue. Not much is revealed on the calendar for the set. It’s listed as “GPK Chrome” with a release date of 11/10/21. There is no reference to “OS 4”. So it’s not known if Topps will continue the yearly reprints or move in a different direction.
GPK Chrome isn’t the only thing on the calendar of interest to collectors. Garbage Pail Kids 2021 Series 1 Food Fight shows the planned release date of 2/24/21 remains in tact. “GPK Series 2” also appears on the calendar with a planned release date of 9/29/21. Again, no details of 2021S2, including theme, are shown on the calendar. However, artists are already in the planning stages of the set. Once again, collectors won’t have much time between the second retail release and 2021 Chrome. Collectors however, will be excited that Chrome will remain for at least another year. Thanks to Jeff Pellegrino of Garbage Pail Kids Superstore at Hilltop Auctions for passing along the calendar. Be sure to check out their Facebook page!
Work Begins on 2021S1 Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight Sketches
Update 2/18: Removed Dustin Graham, added Neil Camera and Dave Dabila.
It’s beginning to look a lot like…sketches? Sketch artists for Topps will have a busy holiday season as they will see visions of GPKs dancing in their heads. Work has begun on the sketches for 2021 Series 1 Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight. Not only has Topps increased sketches artists for the set, but sketches per artist have also increased. Deadlines are always tight, and this release is no exception with sketches due back to Topps by 1/15/21. With the popularity through the roof for GPKs, Topps has increased the number of sketches each artist is being asked to do. Each artist is being asked to complete 65 regular, 20 die-cut, 5 loaded puzzle, 4 panoramic, and 4 Tryptych sketches. This is an increase across the board, except for Loaded puzzle sketches.
Topps is going with a pink and green color scheme for the sketches with this release. The sketch fronts once again feature green banners. The nameplate on the regular sketch is white. The backs are all pink with various OS characters. Regular sketches feature Junkfood John, Panoramic sketches have Fat Matt, while the Triptych has Slimy Sam and Babbling Brooke. In addition to the traditional garbage can die-cut, is a egg shaped die-cut for the food themed set.
The total number of sketch artists for this set will be higher than 2020S2 35th Anniversary. 52 artists completed sketches for the 35th set. Topps has decided to add a number of new artists to the lineup for the new set. So far 50 of the 52 artists from the 35th set have confirmed they are doing sketches for the Food Fight set. Set to return are; David Acevedo, Simone Arena, Rö García Astorga, Quinton Baker, Bobby Blakey, Emma Burges, John Brewer, Neil Camera, Nik Castaneda, Pat Chaimuang, Daniel Contois, Jasmine Contois, Sobot Cortez, Jeff Cox, Jason Crosby, Vincenzo D’Ippolito, Dave Dabila, Joey Fitchett, Dave Gacey, Shane Garvey, Patrick Giles, Kelly Greider, Jason Heil, Lowell Isaac, Robert Jimenez, Karl Jones, Rickey Kipfer, Mike McHugh, Rory McQueen, Chris Meeks, Lily Mercado, Rich Molinelli, Victor Moreno, Barry Nygma, Jay O’leary, Darrin Pepe, Todd Rayner, Cathy Razim, Chad Scheres, Brent Scotchmer, Bekki Jane Sharp, Anthony Skubis, Brandhen Snyder, Matt Steffens, Mike Stephens, Gregory Tilson, Greg Treize, Magnus Von Robotsson, Gavin Williams, and Clinton Yeager. Topps Changes Blaster/Release Date for 2021S1 Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight
Just over a week ago Topps announced the first set of 2021, Series 1 Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight. New information sent to distributors today shows Topps is making changes to the info on the sell sheet. The retail sell sheet had information on it about collectible Refrigerator Tins that would be the packaging for Value “Blaster” Boxes. There will indeed be 4 different lids on these boxes. However, due to the special boxes, the configuration of the Value Box is different than what Topps originally sent to distributors. Value boxes for 2021S1 will contain double the packs of what collectors are use to. Value Boxes will come with 10 retail packs. The boxes will continue to contain only 1 pack of 3 Celebrity Chef insert cards. Despite the changes, Value Box cases remain at 40 boxes. Topps is also raising the MSRP of Value Boxes. The original price sheets had the MSRP for Value boxes at $10.99, the new configuration will be set at $22.00.
That’s not the only change. At some point during the release of the sell sheets Topps sent out mixed messages on the release date for the set. The Hobby price sheets had 1/20/21 as the release date, while the Retail price sheets had 2/24/21. GPKNews has confirmed with Topps that the release date is indeed 2/24/21. This should help as collectors were already looking at releases bunched together due to the delay of 2020S2.
