Topps Again Moves Back 2021S2 Garbage Pail Kids Vacation Release Date

GPK Collectors will need to remain patient for the next retail release, 2021 Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids Goes on Vacation. Topps updated their release calendar today, officially moving back the set to March TBD. Originally set to release in Sept. 2021, the previous date listed for the set by Topps was Feb. TBD. Topps has seen most releases delayed over the last year plus due to the high demand for trading cards, and the Covid pandemic. GPK continues to take a backseat as Topps prioritizes other more profitable products. GPK Chrome OS 4 remains with a March TBD date on the latest calendar.

Topps Updates Garbage Pail Kids Chrome OS 4 Release Date

Topps made a change in release dates this morning for one of their highly anticipated GPK products. Garbage Pail Kids Chrome OS 4 has been updated now to March “TBD”. Originally set for release in November 2021, the set has seen a number of delays. Topps I continued to work through a backlog of sets due to printing delays. What is notable is 2021S2 GPK on Vacation was not changed, and remains February TBD. That could mean good news for collectors as Topps might be more confident that set will release in February. Collectors are slowly inching towards the release of the next sets.

Garbage Pail Kids 2021S2 and Chrome 4 Seeing Additional Delays

The more things change the more they stay the same? Topps updated their release schedule today for distributors and the news isn’t good for Garbage Pail Kids collectors. After being previously listed as January TBD, both the 2021S2 GPK Vacation and Chrome 4 sets have been officially updated by Topps to February TBD. The “TBD” means Topps really doesn’t know when the sets will release. With the update to February, collectors now know they won’t see them in January. Topps continues to see printing delays across all their brands into 2022. Topps only has so many slots available at the printers, unfortunately contracts and other more profitable sets are taking precedence. Some work does continue on the sets as artists have now signed their autographs for both 2021S2 and Chrome 4. After multiple delays for both sets, collectors must continue to exercise patience for the next releases.

Topps Delays 2021S2 Garbage Pail Kids on Vacation Once Again

Topps today, once again, officially delayed 2021 Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids GPK on Vacation. The set is now scheduled to release Dec. 15, 2021. This is the second delay the set has seen. Originally scheduled for a mid-Sept release, the set was first changed to Nov. 24 due to printing delays. Topps has seen delays and cancellations among many of their brands throughout 2021. The Covid pandemic launched a huge demand for trading card products. Manufactures continue to have a hard time finding printers who are able to meet that demand. Artists are expected to receive and sign their autographed cards soon, hopefully a sign the set has been printed, and will shortly enter the pack out process. There is no word yet if 2021 Chrome OS 4 will also see a release date change. The set is still officially scheduled to release 12/31/21.

Topps Reveals Box Tins for 2021S2 GPK Goes on Vacation at NYCC

Update: Thanks to Topps for official pictures of the tin artwork.

Topps is taking the kids on vacation to NYCC. This years New York Comic Con started today and Topps has plenty for GPK collectors that stop by their booth. As part of their display, Topps has examples of the box tins for the next retail set, 2021 Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids  GPK Goes on Vacation. Thanks to collector Sam Gras for sending along pictures. There are three different tins painted with a suitcase theme that will be used for the Value Boxes (Blasters). Artists David Gross, Joe Simko, and Brent Engstrom each painted one tin for the series. Artist Joe McWilliams painted a round globe themed tin which will be used for the Collector Box. After a delay of a couple months, 2021S2 GPK on Vacation is set to be released on 11/24/21.

Topps Delays 2021S2 Garbage Pail Kids Goes On Vacation

GPK collectors are going to have to wait a little bit longer for their next retail fix. Topps has confirmed with GPKNews that the upcoming 2021 Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids GPK Goes on Vacation set has been delayed. Topps already had a pretty good idea they wouldn’t be able to meet the original launch date when sell sheets were sent out. Originally the sell sheet listed the cards would be in stores September 2021. However, the case SKU sheets sent to distributors gave a conflicting release date of 11/24/21. Topps has now confirmed the set won’t hit the September date. With demand in trading card industry exploding in 2021, Topps has had to delay the majority of their products as they struggle to find printers to meet demand. Topps told GPKNews there is no new official release date as of yet. Topps has been releasing release date updates to distributors on a monthly basis. Currently most large online card sellers have the 11/24/21 date listed as the release date. GPK Chrome OS 4 is in a similar place. Conflicting dates were also seen on sell sheets and case SKU sheets when they were sent to distributors. Topps is currently shooting for a late December release for GPK Chrome 4.

Topps Employee Short Prints Coming to 2021 Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids Vacation Set

Topps has confirmed an additional insert card coming to 2021 Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids GPK on Vacation. Emily Kless tweeted out an image of the artwork for her upcoming card. Emily handles much of the front facing public work and social channels for Topps. Topps first turned some employees into GPKs in the 2020S2 35th Anniversary set. Once again the employee cards will be short printed and tough to come by. Look for 2021S2 GPK on Vacation to release in the fall of 2021.

2021 Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids GPK Goes on Vacation Retail Sell Sheet

The last week has been filled with GPK news. Today brings us the retail sell sheets for 2021 Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids GPK Goes on Vacation. There are a number of changes being made to the retail products found in Targets and Walmarts. It appears Fat Packs are a thing of the past. As with Chrome 4, there are no Fat Packs being offered by Topps for the next retail release. Blasters and Retail Display boxes will be the two options available for big box retailers. Because there are no Fat Packs, Purple parallels are also no longer being produced. Collectors can continue to find Green parallels in all retail packs. Route 66 Asphalt (/66), Fool’s Gold (/50), Printing Plates, Regular Sketch cards, and Artist Autos will be also randomly inserted into all pack types throughout the product. A new insert card, Don’t Make Me Pull this Car Over, will be inserted into all retail packs types in 1:3 packs. These cards will featured the theme of the torture that is being crammed into a car for a road trip.

Retail Display boxes are now being advertised by Topps on the sell sheet as being Retail + Hobby Display boxes. Keep in mind these are the same product. There is no “H” designating them as Hobby. They do however come with some exclusive items. Spit Blue parallels (/99) can be found in Display boxes. Famous Landmarks by Tom Bunk can be found in Display Boxes only. The returning Bunk puts his GPK twist on iconic destinations. These will be inserted 1:3 packs.

Blaster boxes (aka Value Box), will continue to contain some exclusive items. Blaster boxes will come packaged in 1 of 3 collectible luggage themed tins. These boxes will once again contain 10 packs, and carry a MSRP of $22 per tin. Phlegm Yellow parallels can only be found in Blasters, and will be inserted 1:5 packs. The Travel Poster Sticker insert set is also a Blaster box exclusive, and will come 3 cards per tin. Collectors will also get the chance to pull Loaded Puzzle and Panoramic sketch cards from these tins.

Much like with GPK Chrome 4, release dates and allocations are up in the air. The product is being heavily allocated on the retail side with customers only being able to pre-order a limited number of cases. The sell sheets advertise the set will be available September 2021, while the case pricing sheets have a release date of Nov. 24, 2021. GPKNews reached out to Topps for clarification on the released date, and was told to expect the set in the Fall of 2021. GPKNews will update everyone once an exactly release date is known. Work Begins on Garbage Pail Kids 2021S2 Sketches

The set might not have been announced by Topps yet, but that hasn’t stopped the work. Sketch artists began receiving their sketch blanks this week for work on the next Garbage Pail Kids retail set, 2021S2. With no permanent brand manager in place for GPK, employees are getting a head start on the next set to make sure everything stays on track. Multiple sketches artists have revealed that the theme for the next series will be GPKs on Vacation. One good thing about working ahead is artists were given one of the longest deadlines they’ve ever had for this release. Sketches are not due for approval until 7/16, giving artists plenty of time to complete their work. Artists are being asked to complete less sketches as they did for the most recent release, Food Fight. They are scheduled to complete 58 regular, 15 die-cut, 5 loaded puzzle, 3 panoramic, and 3 Tryptych sketches. It would appear production might be down compared to the previous set.

Topps is going with blue for the color scheme for the sketches with this release. The sketch fronts feature blue banners. The nameplate on the regular sketch is yellow. The backs are all blue with various OS characters. Regular sketches feature the return of Adam Bomb, Panoramic sketches have Tommy Tomb, while the Triptych has Silent Sandy and Alice Island. In addition to the traditional garbage can die-cut, there is a car shaped sketch to go with the vacation theme.

The total number of sketch artists for this set will be a little lower than 2021S1 Food Fight. 60 artists completed sketches for the Food Fight set. It doesn’t appear Topps has invited any new artists for this set. So far 56 of the 60 artists from the Food Fight set have confirmed they are doing sketches for the Food Fight set. Set to return are; David Acevedo, Simone Arena, Andrew Artz, Rö García Astorga, Robert Ball, Bobby Blakey, Emma Burges, John Brewer, Neil Camera, Nik Castaneda, Pat Chaimuang, Slippa Chervascus, Daniel Contois, Jasmine Contois, Sobot Cortez, Jeff Cox, Jason Crosby, Vincenzo D’Ippolito, Dave Dabila, Adam Dobrzeniecki, Joey Fitchett, Dave Gacey, Shane Garvey, Patrick Giles, Kelly Greider, Jason Heil, Lowell Isaac, Robert Jimenez, Karl Jones, Rickey Kipfer, Mike McHugh, Rory McQueen, Chris Meeks, Lily Mercado, Rich Molinelli, Victor Moreno, Nik Muggli, Erik Muller, Barry Nygma, Jay O’leary, Justin Olson, Mark Parisi, Darrin Pepe, Todd Rayner, Cathy Razim, Chad Scheres, Brent Scotchmer, Bekki Jane Sharp, Brandhen Snyder, Mike Stephens, Floydman Sumner, Gregory Tilson, Greg Treize, Magnus Von Robotsson, Gavin Williams, and Clinton Yeager. Three artists, Quinton Baker, John Cebollero, and Matt Steffens will not be doing sketches on this set. As of this writing  Anthony Skubis have not confirmed if they are returning. Topps is bringing back fan favorite Joe Grotesque for this set. Topps is also debuting a new artists to GPK, RJ Tomascik. This brings the current confirmed sketch artist total to 58 so far. This article will be updated as any additional artists come forward.

Hopefully Topps will send out the sell sheets soon for the set. 2021 Garbage Pail Kids Series 2 is expected to launch this fall.
