It’s October, and that means the Horrible is back. Topps today began teasing their next online sets, 2024 Garbage Pail Kids Oh the Horrible. The yearly tradition that has been very popular with collectors is set to return this Thursday. Topps will offer 6 weeks of sets featuring characters based off of popular horror movies. All artwork will once again be done by Brent Engstrom and David Gross. Each week’s set will contain 10 cards, 5 characters with a/b variations. Each set purchased will come with either a B&W Wrapper or Gold Foil /25 Wrapper Card. Sets will launch every Thursday, with the first one set for this Thursday, 10/3, on Topps.com. Pricing was not be revealed yet by the company. GPK collectors get ready, your horror fix is almost here.
What Collectors Will Find at October Philly Non-Sports Show
The 81st Philly Non-Sports Card Show is just one month away. Once again, the show will have a GPK feel to it! The show is set to take place October 26 & 27 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center. The final artist lineup is now set after a recent change. Long time final GPK card artist Smokin Joe McWilliams will be at the show sharing and selling both GPK art and his own unique creations. Joining him will be GPK sketch artist Lily Mercado. Lily is now a veteran GPK sketch artist, having worked on sets for nearly 10 years now. While the other two artists might not be familiar to GPK collectors, they do have hobby ties. Jason Brower did sketch work for one GPK set back in 2015, and while he isn’t quite official yet, collectors might just get to see some GPK sketch work from Vincent Rappa very soon.
GPK promo cards have become a tradition at the Philly show. Neil Camera created an Adam Bomb x Adams Family mashup card for the show. Card 1a, Adam’s Family, will be given to show goers with paid admission while supplies last. There will also be a 1b version of the card that will be given away to attendees of the traditional Saturday night dinner. Collectors can check to see if there are any spots left at the dinner by emailing [email protected]. There will also be a Wacky Packages promo card, (Artwork Neil Camera/Concept Peter Zies), that will be given to show goers while supplies last.
This show is a must for GPK collectors on the east coast looking to meet their favorite artists, add to their collection, and mingle with their fellow collectors. Single day tickets for the show are $12, while a two day pass can be purchased for $20. The show will be open Saturday 10/26 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and Sunday 10/27 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. More information can be found at the Philly Non-Sports Card Show’s website.
Topps Files for GPK Trademark Focusing on Multimedia Goods
File this one under the very interesting category, *eyesemoji*. The “Hobby’s Lawyer”, Paul Lesko, reported today via his twitter account that Topps this week filed for a new trademark for “GPK”. The trademark filing focuses on three things; multimedia goods based on animated characters, clothing, and entertainment services based on fictional characters. While trademarks don’t guarantee any future product announcements by a company, they can certainly give a glimpse into what Topps might be working on with it comes to GPK. As Lesko writes, “Garbage Pail Kids fans, read into that what you will.”
This week, Topps filed a trademark application for GPK which covers (basically) digital media/multimedia goods, clothes and entertainment services…such as an ongoing television series and electronic game services.

Topps Reveals GPK Bowman Chrome Checklist, Adds Cards to Mega Boxes
Topps today begin preorders for 2024 Bowman Chrome Baseball Mega boxes via Topps.com. With that came new information and reveals about the Garbage Pail Kids cards included in the set. While Topps didn’t reveal odds for GPK Bowman cards on their Hobby odds sheet, they did for Mega Box odds. Base cards show as 1:200 Mega packs. There are also different parallel versions offered in Mega boxes, compared to Hobby boxes. Collectors will have the chance to pull Orange Mojo /25 (1:841), Red Mojo /5 (1:4,205), and Black Mojo 1/1 (1:20,293). Mojo parallels appear to have different patterns on them compared to Chrome parallels according to past year’s set examples.
Topps also revealed the GPK Bowman checklist for the first time. There will be 23 players included as GPK characters. There doesn’t appear to be a/b versions. In an odd choice, Topps lists the players by their real name on the checklist and not by their GPK name.
Based on reported odds and information from Topps, I’ve been able to figure out print run info for Hobby and Mega boxes. What we don’t yet know is if there are additional box types for Bowman Chrome Baseball and if GPK cards will be included in them. Here is a quick break down of each box type announced so far by Topps with print runs based on odds supply by Topps.

Garbage Pail Kids to Appear in Bowman Chrome Baseball
Topps today on their various social media channels revealed some additional details on the GPK cards to be featured in Bowman Chrome. In addition to base versions, each card will also have a Red /5, and a Superfractor 1/1 version. The company showed off 8 of the more than 20 characters that will be available.
While Garbage Pail Kids collectors patiently await information on the next GPK Chrome set, Topps is having the GPKs invade baseball! Topps has tapped artist David Gross to add some GPK flavor to their popular 2024 Bowman Chrome baseball set. Bowman Chrome focuses on the top Rookies and Prospects in MLB. Details for this year’s Bowman Chrome set including checklist, odds, and preorders went live on Topps.com this past week, and sell sheets hit distributors today. Sadly, Topps did not reveal very much information regarding GPKs inclusion. In fact the sell sheets are completely absent of information regarding the GPK cards. Pulling one of these cards looks to be no easy task. Topps did include information to distributors that a GPK Bowman insert would be a case hit in Hobby boxes. Information via Blowout Cards and Dave & Adams reveals, “Each CASE contains One Bowman Ascension Insert OR Bowman GPK Insert”. Gross painted a number of player gags for the set. Set structure, such as a/b versions, card type (chrome vs. paper), and player checklist has not been revealed yet by Topps. Should more information be revealed by Topps, this post will be updated. Bowman Chrome Baseball is set to be released Sept. 11, 2024.

Topps Launches Garbage Pail Kids Dressed to Grotesque
Update: Let’s take a Quick Look at the production numbers for this one.
- 60 cards in set * /25 green foils = 1500 total green foils + 60 Hex Fractor = 1560 total foils
- Relics are 1:4 boxes, that makes foils 3:4 boxes. That equates to 520 total relics + 1560 foils = 2080 total boxes or 10,400 total packs.
If there are 2080 boxes here are some interesting numbers for some of the cards:
- Hex Fractor 2080 boxes / 60 total Hex’s = 1:34.6 per box odds. Nice odds for a 1/1
- Celebrity Wrapper 2080 total wrappers / 5 subjects = 416 of each Wrapper card
- Character Variations 2080 boxes / 16 odds = 130 total variations / 5 subjects = 26 each Character Variation
- C Names 2080 boxes * 2 odds – 130 variations = 4030 total C Names / 30 subjects = 134.3 each C Name
- Base Cards 10,040 packs * 7 per pack = 72,800 total base cards / 60 subjects = 1,213.3 each base card.
