It appears Topps horribly mismanaged failed entry into the digital NFT world is coming to an end. The company released information yesterday on the official Topps NFT Discord channel announcing the impending shutdown of ToppsNFTs.com. In 2020 Topps launched a number of successful NFT sets on the Wax Blockchain. Instead of continuing with that success, in 2021 the company inexplicably left Wax to form their own ToppsNFT site that worked on the Avalanche blockchain. After years of marketplace errors and very little uptime the company is pulling the digital plug on the project.
GPK collectors who have NFTs on the ToppsNFTs.com website have a short window of time to retain access to these digital cards. Topps has announced 93% of NFTs on this website, including all GPKs, are eligible to be transferred to the NFT marketplace OpenSea. NFTs that are transferred will be minted on the Polygon blockchain. This would include the GPK NFT set released in 2022, Non-Flushable Tokens, and some other promotional NFTs given away at NYCC in 2022. Collectors of GPK NFTs on the Wax Blockchain should note this does NOT affect these NFTs. GPK NFTs on Wax remain on that blockchain and can continue to be bought and sold via various Wax marketplaces. Collectors wanting to keep their cards should log into their ToppsNFTs.com account and follow the instructions to initiate the transfer. Only individual cards can be transferred. Unopened packs can not be transferred. Collectors have until May 31, 2025 to open their packs and transfer all their assets to OpenSea. Collectors wishing to sell their packs or cards on ToppsNFTs.com only have until March 31, 2025 when the Marketplace will close, and the cards will no longer be accessible.
Collectors looking for more information should login into their ToppsNFTs.com account, view the FAQ, or check out the Official Topps NFT Discord channel.
