As the awards season continues, so does the online GPK sets. The latest set was based on this year’s Grammy awards. Today Topps revealed the print run for 2018 Garbage Pail Kids The Shammy Awards online set. Topps missed offering the set prior to the awards show, and instead sold it the week after. While many collectors will come out for the holiday themed sets, there is a lukewarm response to the awards sets. The Shammys was much the same as the total print run for the set hit 120 copies. This is the lowest online print run in the last few months, since the final award set of 2017. Topps is sure to have more awards themed sets in the way. However with Valentine’s Day next week, will Topps show GPK collectors some love?

Awards season has started, and Topps is continuing their online tradition. Today Tops revealed the print run for 2017 Garbage Pail Kids Golden Groans Awards online set. The set, which was on sale a week ago, was based off the the recent Golden Globes award show. The artwork on the cards was primarily done by artist Brent Engstrom, with David Gross and JungHwa Im each doing one card. Like previous online awards sets, this one failed to capture the imagination of GPK collectors. The print run was down compared to recent holiday sets. The set finished up with 147 copies sold. Cards for movies/TV shows don’t always resonate with collectors. There are many more awards shows to come the next couple of months, will Topps continue the sets?
Topps closed out 2017 with their now customary Christmas themed set. It took a while, but Topps is finally getting around to revealing print run information. Today Topps revealed the print run for 2017 Garbage Pail Kids Holiday Set. The set featured 10 GPK cards, (5 a/b versions), and 5 Wacky Packages cards. The GPKs in the set were painted by artists Brent Engstrom and David Gross. Despite pleas from collectors, for the last few online sets of 2017 Topps has reverted to including both GPKs and Wackys in the same set. The decision was sure to have an effect on total sales of the sets. This year’s set sold a total of 207 copies. This marks the end of a very busy year for GPKs from Topps. Topps has already hit the ground running with the first online cards of the year. 2018 is shaping up to be another big year for online GPK offers.
In what is now a yearly tradition, Topps started out 2018 online sets by jumping back into the awards pool. Today Topps launched 2018 Garbage Pail Kids Golden Groans Awards online set. The 12 card set features 6 new pieces of artworks, (in a/b versions), that is based off of this weekend’s Golden Globes award show. After going back to mixing the holiday online sets with Wacky Packages, today’s set features only GPK cards. The set is available for $29.99 as a complete set only. Christmas Holiday! Today Topps launched 2017 Garbage Pail Kids Holiday Set. Once again, Topps has decided to combine GPKs and Wacky Packages into the same set. The 15 card set contains five new pieces of GPK artwork in a/b versions, as well as five Wacky Packages. The Christmas themed GPK cards were completed by artists Brent Engstrom and David Gross. The set is available as a set only for $34.99. Shipping is free in the US, or $10 internationally. The set will be available on topps.com for 7 days. Did collectors show up to purchase all the turkey and trimmings they could handle? Today Topps revealed the print run for 2017 Garbage Pail Kids Thanksgiving online set. For the first time in months the set consisted of both GPKs and Wacky Packages. Collectors decided that didn’t matter as much, and still showed up for the holiday set. The set sold a total of 188 copies. While being much less than it’s Halloween counterpart, it’s still a lot higher than previous awards related online sets. Look for Topps to continue the holiday theme later in Dec. with a Christmas themed set.

Topps was in a revealing mood today as they have now caught up on Print Run reveals for all their online sets. Today Topps revealed the print run for 2017 Garbage Pail Kids Halloween online set. The 20 card set was based on characters from popular horror movies. The artwork proved to be right in the line with what collectors were looking for. Despite the larger set and higher price point, the set sold 272 copies. Those numbers are higher than any other online set in months. GPK collectors have shown that if the artwork and content are good they will spend the money.
Almost a month after the set was sold online Topps finally released the print run for 2017 Garbage Pail Kids Fall Comic Convention online set. The 12 card set was sold during the week of this year’s New York Comic Con. The set ended up doing much better than previous online sets, even beating the GPK Classic set. The final print run for the whole set was announced as 187 copies sold. GPK collectors have shown over the years that cards based on comic characters are popular.
