Topps Reveals Print Run for Garbage Pail Kids Video Set #3 GPK Rocks

After selling for the past month the sales are in for the latest set based on the GPK animated videos. Today Topps revealed the print run for Garbage Pail Kids Video Series Set #3 GPK Rocks. The set sold a total of 348 copies. This is down quite a bit from the previous two video sets. The card set is not a typical GPK set, but instead still shots from the animated videos. When the animated videos and card sets debuted, Topps had advertised there would be one video per month. However, things seemed to have slowed down with GPK Rocks being the only video released since mid-Feb. Topps has not hinted yet when the next video will launch.

Some Garbage Pail Kids Gone Exotic Sets Printed Incorrectly

Collectors began receiving their Garbage Pail Kids Gone Exotic sets in the mail this week. However what they saw, wasn’t as expected. The first sets to be opened up had a set of cards with blank backs, and another set of cards with blank fronts. This odd error appears to only happen with sets that were shipped first. Collectors opening up sets later in the week confirmed their cards were printed correctly. GPKNews reached out to Topps for comment on the error. According to a Topps spokesperson, the problem was not wide spread. Collectors who didn’t receive the correct set can contact Topps customer service to request a  replacement. There is no word on exactly how many error sets were printed by Topps. Based on posts online it appears most of the error sets were shipped to European collectors. These error sets will surely fetch a premium price on the secondary market.

Garbage Pail Kids Featured on Antiques Roadshow

Tonight’s episode of Antiques Roadshow featured an appraisal of Garbage Pail Kids. The long time PBS TV show visits cities around the country, and uses expert appraisers to give people value of everything from fine art, furniture, collectibles, and more. This week’s show was filmed at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas. The appraiser was Travis Landry, who is a Collectibles and Toy appraiser for the show as well as Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers. Almost mid-way through the show a lady was shown with her Garbage Pail Kids collection. The appraiser highlighted the key OS 1 cards in the collection (1a/b & 8a/b). According to the appraiser, she had complete OS 1 & 2 sets. The appraiser was knowledgeable about Garbage Pail Kids while he gave a brief history of the sets. When it came time to give value, he pointed out the flaws in the key cards and said the Nasty Nick would grade a “7”, while both Nick and Eddie would be worth between $250-$350 each. He said the Adam Bomb and Blasted Billy would be between $200-$300 each. In all, he valued the collection at $1000. This marks Garbage Pail Kids second reality TV appearance after a Storage Wars episode a few years back. You can watch tonight’s Antique Roadshow episode on PBS.com. The GPK portion begins at 24:52 of the episode.

Topps Reveals Print Run for Garbage Pail Kids Gone Exotic

America has gone crazy for the Tiger King. Today Topps revealed the print run for Garbage Pail Kids Gone Exotic. This set was officially licensed by Netflix and was based off the hugely popular documentary, Tiger King. The popularity led to a lot of media for Topps on the set, which in turn meant a lot of sales. The set sold a total of 3,285 copies.  This blows away the previous high in sales for any online Garbage Pail Kids set. The previous high of 1,870 was set earlier this year with the first Disg-Race to the White House set. With results like this, collectors can expect to see more Tiger King sets in the future.

2020 Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids 35th Anniversary Retail Sell Sheet

After yesterday’s release of the Hobby sell sheet, today brings us the 2020 Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids 35th Anniversary retail sell sheet. The format of the second series of 2020 is much the same as the first series of the year, Late to School, with just a couple of changes. The base set still appears to be numbered 1-100a/b, but the set features cards from 5 different themes. The themes help celebrate Garbage Pail Kids through the last 35 years. Collectors can expect to see familiar characters and art styles throughout all eras of Garbage Pail Kids. Like Late to School the set will have back art, featuring puzzles, checklists, and more.

Of course Retail Display boxes are back once again. These 24 pack boxes were not very popular with Collectors with the Late to School set since Topps removed the Yellow Parallels. In order to help rectify that, the Spit Blue Parallels (/99), formerly found in Collector boxes, have moved to Retail Display boxes. While this increases the value of Retail Display boxes, it hurts the Collector box as there was no value replacement for them. Green Parallels return 1 per pack in all retail types. Gold Parallels also can be found in all pack types, however this time they will be /35, instead of the usual /50. Artist Autos and Printing plates are also available in all pack types. The Retail Display boxes will be the only place to find the “No Ragerts” Temporary Tattoos. The artwork on these are done in American Traditional tattoo style. Finally, collectors can also hunt for regular sized sketch cards.

Value boxes will be available again in retail stores like Target and Wal-Mart. These 5 pack boxes will once again come in 40 box cases, a change Topps made with the Late to School set. The Phlegm Yellow parallels will be back in Value boxes again, one per box. Midlife Crisis insert cards will appear 3 per Value box, wrapped in a separate cellophane wrapper. These will be classic characters facing midlife and millennial issues. Also just like Late to School, Value boxes are scheduled to feature both Loaded and Panoramic sketches. This didn’t happen with the Late to School set, as Topps switched the Pano and Triptych sketches during production.

The last retail pack type will be the familiar Fat Packs. Fat Packs will see the return of 1 Jelly Purple parallel per pack. Each pack will also include 2 Fan Favorite insert cards. The sell sheet says these will be the favorite GPKs as voted on by fans. No word yet on how or when Topps will hold voting.

The sell sheet also advertises that collectors will have a chance to have a custom GPK created of themselves. To view the retail sell sheet click here, or see below for pictures. 2020 Series 2 Garbage Pail Kids 35th Anniversary is set to hit store shelves on 9/23/20.

Once again the familiar parallel colors are scheduled to be back. Although the sell sheet does advertise back card art as well. All retail packs will contains 1 Booger Green parallel. While Bruised Black  and Bloody Nose Red /75 parallels will  return to Collector packs, Spit Blue /99 parallels have moved to the Retail Display boxes. Fool’s Gold parallels can be found throughout all pack types and will be numbered to only /35 this time. Printing Plates and Artist Autos can also be found in all pack types.

Insert cards this time feature “No Ragerts” Temporary Tattoos. These can be found only in Retail Display boxes and are described as GPK inspired temporary tattoos in American Traditional style.
